HYBRID E-bikes are designed and built in New Zealand to be versatile and flexible so they can handle a range of New Zealand riding conditions. Our e-bikes are fast and nimble on flat city streets but the lighter carbon fibre frame and powerful motor mean they are far superior to other similar e-bikes on hills where performance is critical.

We believe we’ve created the perfect all-rounder bike – great for commuting to work, meandering on a winery tour, or handling hilly trails effortlessly.

Electric bikes don’t have to be heavy and feel like farm machinery. Carbon Fibre bike frames, historically only available to high-level athletes, are super strong and light providing a superior, efficient, responsive ride. Our unique E-Bike frame design and carbon fibre manufacturing processes have made lightweight carbon fibre E-bikes an affordable reality for you.

Jim is a former NZ olympic cycling mechanic with decades of experience. Jim manages business operations and managed Nelson’s famous Village Cycles store for 25+ years.

OUR STORY.

Hybrid Bikes was born from a deeply personal quest—to regain fitness following a battle with cancer (which I won). From this initial design emerged a bold vision: to establish the premier carbon fibre E-Bike company in Nelson adorned with the iconic New Zealand Fern and to elevate this Kiwi brand onto the global stage.

In 2018, our dedication to excellence was validated with the prestigious Fernmark Award, marking the start of our journey. Since then, we have led the field in carbon fibre E-Bike innovation, earning global recognition. In 2023, we received the Global Award for “Most Innovative Leader – E-Bike,” followed by another win in 2024 for our revolutionary “Full Suspension, Step-Through Carbon Fibre E-Bike.” Despite our innovation, financial constraints prevented us from scaling fast enough to compete with billion-dollar brands.

Our track record includes the Supreme Business Award in 2021, Deloitte Fast 50 in 2022, and recognition as a High Growth Company in the Asia-Pacific region in 2024. In July 2024, we will proudly represent New Zealand at the Euro Bike Show in Frankfurt, a testament to our leadership in carbon fibre E-Bike design. Hybrid Bike can offer a full range of customized carbon fibre E-Bike to suit everybody.

In 2026 Hybrid Bikes won a Global Innovation Excellence Award.
